For sure, you may have been in a situation where someone asks you a question in Spanish but even though you speak Spanish you lacked confidence to replay and couldn’t understand why?
Or in that situation where friends or colleagues are conversing in Spanish, would like to join in but lack confidence through fear of not being understood.
If these situations sound familiar there is a simple solution to improve your language skills. There is always a way to change or improve these situations.
To acquire the language in a natural way. You will learn only what you need, and you will understand what others are saying to you.
How is that? With Comprehensible Input.
What is Comprehensible Input? You will be asking.
In a very summarized form, information that you can understand.
As Stephen Krasen said:
We acquire a language when we comprehend what people say and not how they are saying.
Anything that can help you to have comprehensible input, such as pictures, drawing, stories, photographs, world knowledge, music, etc, works.
First, we need information, then we process in our main this information in a natural way and little by little we start to acquire the language. After, the oral skills emerge gradually and we start to talk in the second language.
We acquire the language in a way and only in that way, when we get comprehensible input.
Do you want to know how?
I became a Spanish teacher and I did research on different methodologies to find the functional learning of acquisition of skills that have practical application to make the students speak Spanish easily.
I met Helene Colinet, teacher and teachers professional trainer. I learned from her and it took m e to know, undoubtedly, the best way to teach a language, with Comprehensible Input and also to investigate the Stephe Krasen studies and theories.
Learning with Helene Colinet also took me to meet Blaine Ray, Spanish teacher in the USA, who developed the TPRS methodology . Teaching Proficiency through Reading and storytelling.
Without a doubt, all this has made a big difference in my Spanish lessons. Now they are more dynamic and the students acquire the language in a more natural way.
Everything requires time, dedication and perseverance. To acquire a language too. But to learn in this way is not an effort or nightmare anymore, now you can enjoy the process of learning and acquiring Spanish language easily. That dream that can become true for you.
